Vietnam Day 1

So after traveling for 27 hours we have finally made it to Ho Chi Minh City! The flight wasn't too bad it was 13 hours from Dallas to Tokyo and then 6 hours to Ho Chi Minh City, if it wasn't for all the connections and layovers it would have been just fine because I slept most of the time. We left at 7 am on Saturday, February 26th and we arrived at 10 pm on Sunday February 27th, so we have lost an entire day but will make it up on the way home.

My mom's family which included two of my aunts, three uncles, and 2 cousins met us at the airport. My Mom hasn't seen them in almost 8 years and the last time I was here was 16 years ago when I was 13!! So it was really great to see them and have them meet my husband. We left the airport and immediately witnessed the craziness of the drivers in this city on our way to the hotel. Nobody stays in there lanes and you are on the road with cars, trucks, scooters, and bicycles. It was late and on a Sunday so it wasn't too awfully bad but tomorrow we will see what its really all about.

The hotel we are staying at is called Hotel Hon En and it is a brand new hotel not far from the airport and close to my uncles home here in HCMC. Its a small boutique hotel that is really cute, the rooms are small but have everything you need and are very clean. For $11.00 a night its Bomb.com!! There are many large hotels in the city that cost the normal range of $100-$200 a night that are in the heart of the city but if you don't mind the boutique hotel then this is perfect and since we have rented a driver with a large van, transportation is no problem.

Soon after getting settled in our rooms we decided to venture out and get some food and go to my uncles house to eat and say hello to some other cousins, are stay was short as it was getting late but going over to their house brings back many memories for me from when I use to visit here as a child.

So the 1st night has gone great, except for the fact I cannot get on Face Book! I'm not sure if its FB or the wireless connection I'm using but FB will not connect.... grrr. Maybe tomorrow it will work!! And yes you are thinking I'm crazy because I shouldn't even worry about that right now, except I really have no way of communicating with anyone and that bothers me. Oh well, so the plan for tomorrow is to tour the city, do some shopping and have a spa day! I will be trying to make daily posts so look for them :)

Goodnight from Ho Chi Minh City!
